Colloque / Département Droit international, Groupe Cyber, Data, Nano-bio, AI

Le 13 mai 2024

On the 13th of May, Professor Theodore Christakis (Director) and Dr. Theodoros Karathanasis of the Chair AI Regulation will participate in the workshop “Les Audits de l’IA” at the Campus Cyber (Paris), which is organised by the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) of Lyon in the framework of the project PEPR Cybersécurité – IPoP project. The IPoP (Interdisciplinary Project on Privacy) project, led by Inria, is one of the 7 projects selected as part of the PEPR (Programme et Equipements Prioritaires de Recherche) on cybersecurity and launched in October 2022. Since then, the Chair has been participating as a partner in the IPoP project by providing it legal expertise on the legal and regulatory implications of AI.

Professor Theodore Christakis (Director) and Dr. Theodoros Karathanasis will open the workshop with a paper entitled: “Setting the (Legal) Scene: The Risk-Based Approach Under the AI Act and its Ramifications

Has the “risk-based” approach endured the legislative process intact, particularly in light of legislators’ intention to regulate General Purpose AI systems post the commercialization of Chat GPT in November 2022? Are the distinctions between the various “risk” categories within the AI Act readily discernible? What implications do these distinctions hold for the obligations of both developers and users of AI systems? Moreover, how does the interplay between conformity assessments, risk management systems, and Fundamental Rights Impact Assessments for high-risk AI systems under the AI Act intersect with pre-existing categories such as the GDPR’s Data Protection Impact Assessments?

The workshop aims to question the way the assessment of AI should be framed, and to explore the challenges and responses currently being provided by research and players in the field, with the participation of distinguished experts (in order of speaking): Margo Bernelin – Head of research at the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) / Université de Nantes, David Gruson – founder of Ethik-IA, Agnès Delaborde – Head of the department for the evaluation of AI and cybersecurity at the Laboratoire National de métrologie et d’Essais (LNE)Eric Boniface – Director and co-founder of Labelia Labs, Nicolas Berkouk – AI Scientific Expert in Artificial Intelligence (CNIL), Aurélien Bellet – Senior Researcher  in AI and Machine Learning (Inria), Arnault Ioualalen – CEO of Numalis, Benoit Rottembourg – head of the pilot project Regalia (Inria) and Antoine Boutet, Assistant Professor in the department of Computer Science at INSA Lyon,
